There have been lot of differences between two professions although both of them are related with health care services. Registered nurses (RN) belong at higher status in comparison to the Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). The LPN works under the supervision of RN. In a medical set up we see registered nurses work for long time , permanent basis but on the other hand licensed practical nurses don’t wok at any fixed medical units basically they work in private nursing homes or at houses for looking after the disabled patients.
The Basic Duties of an LPN
A licensed practical nurse performs various duties, she takes the blood pressure, pulse pressure, and weight of the patient, and she gives the patient the required medicine as prescribed by the physician. She notes down the symptoms and different signs of the patient during treatment, when a patient is usually wounded she dresses the patients by bandaging the injured part of the body, when required she puts injections over all she has to take the treatment history in her grip. During her tenure as LPN, she should be skilled in computer operation as often the data-set and records of the patients’ treatment are set into computer for file up.
The Basic Duties of RN
In a medical set up a registered nurse plays a vital role. She is the chief of nursing staff, during her duty she monitors the scheduling and rescheduling of LPNs working schedules. She as her own way can make any system for running the medical unit related with nursing system, she can assist a physician while a patient is examined of treated, for smooth functioning she may take her own decision though registered nurses are different from medical assistants. Duties of a medical assistant includes some administrative work including clinical duties.
How One LPN Becomes a RN?
If an LPN wants to become registered nurse, she has to acquire the required qualification; she has to pass out the NCLEX-RN means National Council Licensure Examination of registered nurse by the time she also may go forward with the additional study, for a RN an entry level nurse or LPN needs to go through associate of science in nursing program. For completing associate of science in nursing 2 or 3 years are required. While some one goes through the ASN program, she gets priority as she has performed as an LPN for quite some time and have gained some experience.
Subjects Needed to Be Studied for Becoming RN
It is very common and true fact that the RN possesses much knowledge than an LPN. A RN when completes her course program, she needs to study anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry ,nutrition ,psychology, and many different types of behavioral and social sciences, during the course program she is taught clinical supervising aptitude, other than these she also learns about pediatrics, maternity, surgery etc.
Subjects Needed to Be Studied for Becoming LPN
With a minimum of diploma or GED qualification one can pursue for LPN, biology, English, math, first aid, emergency medical treatment, child growth are taught in this case. Good personal skill and communication is also must.
The Pay Difference between LPN and RN
A registered practical nurse earns average $48,000- $90,000 as per locality and her experience, but an LPN earns average $20,000-$50,000 yearly.
